The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued a Request for Proposals (RfP) for the selection of a supplier for a 600 MW/1200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project to be implemented in Andhra Pradesh. The scope also includes a 15-year comprehensive service and maintenance contract (DC Package).

This ambitious energy storage initiative reflects SECI’s continued leadership in scaling renewable integration and grid stabilization through advanced battery technologies. The project is poised to play a critical role in India’s national energy transition strategy by providing firm renewable power and grid support services.

A pre-bid meeting has been scheduled for 19 August 2025 at 2:30 PM IST, conducted in hybrid mode (both online and offline). The online component will be hosted on Microsoft Teams, with invitations being shared on 18 August 2025.

The selected company will be in charge of supplying and setting up a 600 MW/1200 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Andhra Pradesh. This includes everything from design and delivery to installation, testing, and getting the system up and running. After setup, the company must also handle operations and maintenance for the system for the next 15 years.

The project is part of the Indian government’s plan to support battery storage through a Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme, which aims to add 30 GWh of standalone BESS capacity by 2028. The stored energy will be discharged and sold through power exchanges, following schedules set by SECI.

As part of the contract, the chosen bidder must provide a performance guarantee worth 10% of the total contract value within 20 days of receiving the award notice. All batteries and equipment must be fully delivered within 11 months, and the complete system must be installed and commissioned within 14 months, working in coordination with SECI’s authorized contractor for the AC systems.
